DOMIBACHATA VS FUSIONBACHATA

FusionBachata is mostly left-right stepping with salsa related hand turnpatterns and dips. DomiBachata is stepping in square (box) and the tap decoreted with double and triple steps. DomiBachata rhythm feels in the chest while the FusionBachata in the legs. DomiBachata transforms the music instruments into body movements. Notice! DomiBachata is not just fancy footwork. It is a huge variety of the ways to dance romantic/fast, with/without steps, close/open position, minimalistic/detailed, etc..

SHOULD I LEARN DOMIBACHATA?

Yes ofcourse! it's like a magic powder enhancing all your other dances. It's compulsory if you want to dance with Dominicans. It's becoming more common and maybe some day one of the mainstreams of bachata. You can mix and match domi and fusionbachata or to use domibachata as a basis for the outstanding bachatango.

THE MUSIC FOR THE DOMIBACHATA

Basically any bachata will do, but it's more enjoyable to dance with the traditional bachata produced in DR. Most of the fusion bachata songs lack instruments and dynamics, which prevents the full range music interpretation. Here are some nice songs for domibachata.

BACHATA AMBASSADOR AND DOMIBACHATA

Bachata Ambassador has visited DR 16 times during 20 year. That's enough to learn the dominican culture. Bachata Ambassasor did an extensive 5 year study about the way how Dominicans dance. He discovered Dominicans using a small set of elements but a huge amount of styling, which means easy to learn basics but huge task to be perfect. Ambassador will teach together with Pantera Suave the Bachata Survival Kit, which means the essential skills needed for the autentic DomiBachata dancing.

Keiry Alvarez (Pantera Suave), her friends and the whole Dominican Republic dances only the autentic DomiBachata. Pantera is the reference point regarding the autentic style. She will teach together with Jorge, Gabryel and Ambassador.

DOMIBACHATA, REAL DOMIBACHATA AND DOMINICAN WAY OF DANCING BACHATA

Dominican way of dancing bachata is a dance genre on it's own and not to be confused with the other bachata dance genres like BachaTango, FusionBachata and BachataUrbano. Dominican way means basically how Dominicans dance bachata in their own clubs in DR. Bachata instructors around the world have been using the terminology "Dominican Style Bachata" (shortly DomiBachata) although most of them have never been in Dominican Republic or never seen Dominicans dancing bachata. Nowadays there are some foreigners (non-Dominicans) who have already learned the Dominican way, but the majority of the foreigners still dance DomiBachata in a way that is not compatible with Dominicans. This is the reason why Bachata Ambassador established the Facebook group The Real Dominican Style Bachata (The Real DomiBachata) to point out the problem. Now, after the DR 1st bachata festival, the point is coming clear. Dominican way of dancing bachata is a dance genre on it's own. Instead of using the long form "Dominican way of dancing bachata" or the provocative way "The Real DomiBachata", we will call it shortly DomiBachata although we know that only a few non-dominicans can teach it. Also we know that there isn't an established bachata training culture in DR, which means it's hard to find a good DomiBachata instructor in DR.

There are a lot of bachata dance videos and part of them are filmed and uploaded by Dominicans. There are also active discussions and competitions with valuable prizes.

6TH FESTIVAL DOMIBACHATA INSTRUCTORS: JORGE&LESLIE

Jorge Contreras and Leslie Ferreira are the pioneers of autentic DomiBachata in USA. They have been teaching it for years and they were in DR 1st Bachata Festival in Sto Domingo to learn the rest of the details. They will teach the whole package starting from the roots, dancing on the instruments, dancing as one unit and proceeding from simple to extremely difficult footwork and partnerwork technics.
